Before we dive into this guide, I just wanted to take a second to say how much I love Coron.

This is probably my favourite island in the whole of the Philippines! …which is quite a big statement, since the Philippines has SO MANY beautiful islands to choose from.

In fact, we loved it so much that Coron is where we decided to hold the first ever Travel Continuously Summit!

Where is Coron, Philippines?

Coron is an archipelago in the Philippines located off the northwest tip of Palawan Island, just south of Mindoro.

The island chain consists of several large islands and a few dozen smaller land-masses that reach from the northern to southern section of Palawan.

When visiting Coron, you’ll find yourself in a convergence of cultural influences – Tagbanua, Cuyunon and Ilocano being the most prominent.

These ethnic groups have amalgamated to form a unique identity distinct from other parts of the country offering visitors with different perspectives of Filipino culture.

How to Get to Coron?

Before you can start exploring, you’ll need to figure out how to get there first.

Luckily, getting to this tropical paradise is fairly easy and straightforward.

Get to Coron By Air

The easiest way to reach Coron from Manila is by air.

Several airlines offer direct flights from Manila or other major cities in the Philippines including Cebu City and Kalibo International Airport.

Get to Coron By Speed Boat

Otherwise, you can make arrangements to get boat directly from El Nido or Puerto Princesa.

The most common route people take is normally with a direct speed boat from El Nido.

Get to Coron By Ferry

It’s also possible to take larger ferries from both of these locations – as well as an 18 hour journey from Manila – which could make for an interesting but slightly longer journey.

The ferry services will normally depart every day. Just be aware of any weather complications, as they can also be cancelled if there is a typhoon.

You can book your tickets ahead of time or directly at any local port – just be sure to get there early so you don’t miss out.

If you have some spare time at the end of the day, you NEED to get to the Maquinit Hot Springs for sunset.

In the mangroves outside of Coron Town are the Maquinit Hot Springs. These are salt water hot springs, a rare thing in the world, and the source of the geothermal energy is an underground volcano that vents into the sea.

Plus, the sunsets are spectacular.

Calauit Safari Park

Visit a secluded wildlife sanctuary known as Calauit Island where African wildlife roam freely through the forests alongside indigenous species who call this special place home.

See creatures like giraffes, cheetahs, monkeys, zebras, wild buffalos, crocodiles as well as endemic species like Palawan bearded pigs amongst many others!
