5 Things You Need To Know To Become A Digital Nomad

Here Are The Top 5 Things You Need To Know To Become A Digital Nomad

Being a digital nomad has become a huge trend as we advance further into the 21st century. A digital nomad is a lifestyle choice whose premise is based on the growing influence of the internet and extensive telecommunication development over the last decade or so.

It’s beyond a job specification as it can span all kinds of work. It is the evolution of freelancing to a more adventurous form due to the travel aspect. Established corporations who thrive on pure human creativity and innovative thinking are taking on this evolution by allowing some of their most creative minds to discover the best environments and timings (which are usually outside the office and traditional office hours) that would open a world of creativity to them.

Making the transition to a digital nomad is undoubtedly possible in this day and age, but here are some of the things that you need to know if you are considering the switch to a Digital Nomad life!

5 Things You Need To Know To Become A Digital Nomad

What Is Your Niche?

That’s the first you need to know: What is your niche going to be in the Digital Nomad world? You need a niche that you are already good at and you are sure of offering excellent and world-class services on. If you are in a 9 to 5 corporation and want to work remotely with your existing job, then you have to be able to prove that indeed your creativity warrants such freedom that doesn’t need to be disciplined by a boss in real time.

Do you have online clients?

You’re remote. You won’t see your clients in the flesh most of the time. You have to be sure your niche allows for a full pool of online clients. The trends in your niche should also show that your clients in your niche go online to search for solution providers. That ensures that you have orders and jobs that would give you a fulfilling experience. Freelance platforms bring people sellers to contact and buyers.

Where Are You Going To Live And Work?

Where are you planning to travel, work and live when you start your remote life? What’s the weather like? What are the internet providers like? What’s the best internet provider available in the area? You need some purpose and planning to make it, but at the same time your nomadic experience should be enjoyable. You don’t want to go to a place where the weather (or food) breaks you, and you fail to deliver on your timelines.

You need to know if your internet connection speeds or availability would be affected as that is your primary and sometimes the only source of communication with current and prospective clients and also family. If you lose that… You lose everything! So pick your location wisely!

Can You Manage Your Cash?

You’re on the move and you need to think about money. Exchange rates. Cash withdrawals. Expenses. These are important to your daily living. You need to ensure you set up flexible cash management systems in your home country that allow you instant access from whatever spots in the world that you intend to be working from. You need to be smart in managing your income. Chances are you’ll get a few surprises when making use of financial facilities that are outside your home country. So set safe spending boundaries.

What Are Your Organisational Skills Like?

With technological improvements you’ll probably need just a laptop, an internet connection, an international debit/credit card and some changes of clothing to start off in the Digital Nomad world!

You’re light, but you need to work out things like time for work, time for sleep, time for leisure and time for keeping up with relationships and ensuring you don’t spend too much time working.
